Houses of Worship

Disasters can affect any structure, whether publicly or privately owned.  This includes government buildings, businesses, residences, and house of worship. These disasters can be natural, technological or manmade. While houses of worship are typically considered safe places, they can experience disasters too. Houses of Worship can take steps to plan for these potential emergencies through the creation of an emergency operations plan (EOP).

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has developed a guide with information about developing an EOP for all types of hazards.  It discusses actions that may be taken before, during and after an incident in order to reduce the loss of life and reduce the impact on property. DHS encourages every House of Worship to develop an EOP. You may access this guide here.
